Hacettepe University Hospitals, a leading Turkish academic hospital group, has chosen RayStation® as its treatment planning system. The Department of Radiation Oncology at Hacettepe is one of the most technologically advanced centers in the Euro-Asia region, with equipment including Varian and Elekta linacs, CyberKnife, brachytherapy and 4D-CT imaging.
The order was placed through Oncotech Medical Systems, RaySearch’s distribution partner in Turkey, with installation scheduled to take place during fall 2016. Functionality will include 3D-CRT, VMAT, IMRT, fallback planning, deformable registration and multi-criteria optimization.
Hacettepe University Hospitals aims to create an integrated radiation therapy center that will lead the way in providing advanced cancer treatment. An important step in achieving this is to unify its broad range of treatment technology under a single treatment planning system. RayStation makes this possible through outstanding flexibility and support for all the latest treatment techniques and machines.
Professor Gokhan Ozyigit, Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Hacettepe University Hospitals, says: “The radiation therapy community tends to focus on treatment machines rather than software. I believe we must change that focus for the wellbeing of our patients. RayStation will be our backbone platform for various types of radiation therapy machines. The unique and advanced features of this powerful tool will enable a machine-independent environment and give us a new approach and direction for the future of radiation therapy.”
Mecit Canbolat, General Manager of Oncotech Medical Systems, says: “Hacettepe University Hospitals is one of the best-known such facilities in Turkey and a leading innovator in radiation therapy. RayStation is the perfect match for a department that needs to consolidate such a wide range of machines. This cooperation will help improve treatment quality for patients and should inspire other clinics.”
Johan Löf, CEO of RaySearch, says: “We have designed RayStation to meet the needs of leading-edge clinics like Hacettepe University Hospitals, which work with advanced techniques and often have systems from different providers. Software is driving innovation in radiation therapy today, and RayStation is at the forefront of the transformation. It helps to unify technology, opens up new treatment possibilities and provides the best possible user experience for clinicians.”
