RayStation 5* introduces carbon ion treatment planning, the most advanced form of radiation therapy, and Plan Explorer, a treatment planning tool that allows clinics to maximize delivery efficiency and plan quality for every patient. It also features many new additions such as robust optimization based on 4DCT images and unlimited patient storage.
First TPS with Carbon ion support commercially available RayStation 5 becomes the first commercially available system to support carbon ion planning. Robust optimization over multiple 4DCT images Robustness against uncertainties is a key factor in order to utilize the higher precision of modern treatment techniques. The inclusion of 4DCT images in the robust optimization process addresses situations where there is significant relative motion of internal organs, such as in the thorax during free breathing.

The RayStation 4.5 release should help cancer centers to dramatically improve their treatment planning process.
It features extremely fast optimization and dose computation speeds. As the computation time is measured in seconds rather than minutes, the user can efficiently create and refine the treatment plans in one sweep instead of opening a second case or going on a break during computations.
On top of the existing automation tools like scripting and protocols, RayStation now offers automated tangential breast IMRT planning with rayAutoBreast. Clinical results from Princess Margaret Cancer Center (PMH) in Toronto show that this method should add tremendous efficiency, standardization, and quality to the current treatment planning process. 
Biomechanical deformable registrations using the unique MORFEUS technology is now available. The advanced biomechanical modeling in Morfeus incorporates not only the material properties of various anatomical structures, but also how they interact and affect each other. Examples include the sliding interface between the lung and the chest. This allows for more accurate deformable registrations, used for dose tracking and ROI propagation. The development and extensive validation of Morfeus has been documented in several publications in renowned scientific journals.
